Student intranets are information systems that educational organisations utilize to improve their communication and information availability for students. Well-designed navigation is cen-tral to a successful intranet, because one of the key functions of an intranet is information re-trieval. Navigation is also one of the most essential factors affecting the usability of intranets. This study focuses on finding the best practices for designing navigation in student intranets in terms of usability. The researchdata was collected through usability testing with eye tracking and thematic interviews with nine participants. As a result of the study, a 12-point guideline for student intranet design is proposed. As a research contribution, this study provides insight into how navigation in student intranets should be designed for better usability. Also, as intranet studies often focus on company context, this study adds more knowledge about intranet usabil-ity in the context of educational organisations.
