Utilisation of Target Impact Profile in Investment Impact Evaluation

Abstract

The aim of this research is to present the Target Impact Profile (TIP) methodology for calculating the impact profile of a single investment as well as investment portfolio and for the evaluation how this value can be utilized in decision-making. This research was done as a part of MittaMerkki project that aims to provide a framework for integrating value creation perspective into the investment decision-making process. The theoretical part of this thesis review investment decision-making processes, the concept of impact in impact investing as well as the inclusion of stake holders in investment assessment. Methodology chapter presents Analytical Hierarchy Process and the constructed Target Impact Porfile, (TIP). This method was tested in this thesis with data from MittaMerkki project (impact data about investment options as well as criteria weights from experts and decision-makers.) This research provided promising results that TIP method could detect and show the investments that have a profile close to the aims of decision-makers. Due to early stage of the method, this thesis presents multiple suggestions for future research. Future research could concentrate on utilizing this method in multiple case companies, connecting sensitivity analysis to this method, exploring the method with a larger number of investments and evaluation criteria, as well as further development of the mathematical formulas.
