| dc.description.abstract | The subject for this master’s thesis is to research the surface treatment process of synchronous machines in the employer company, ABB Oy Motors and Generators, Helsinki. The topic for this research was given by the employer company, they have certain assumptions regarding the surface treatment of synchronous machines, but no research regarding the subject of this paper have been previously made. The goal for this research is to get acquainted with the surface treatment process of synchronous machines in the employer company, and speculate some possible improvements. Thus, the research question was se together with the employer company as, ‘How the surface treatment of different synchronous machines would be beneficial to arrange in different surface treatment classes?’ This study provides a conclusion by answering to the research question as, sourcing the surface treatment to gain lead time reductions. There are some major challenges that are presented which are needed to overcome before a successful implementation of the surface treatment process. Most of the material and knowledge gathered in this study, is done with different qualitative research methods, and speculated from there. This brings up some concerns about using qualitative methods as a data acquisition system, but this is acknowledged in the research by the author. The actual validation of research results still need to be done with quantitative data due to the qualitative research methods used in this study. | |
