Controller-toiminnon kehittäminen teknologiateollisuusalan yritykseen : Vaikutukset päätöksentekoon, johtamiseen ja liiketoimintaan

Abstract

Tämä tutkielma tarkastelee controller-toimintoa johdon laskentatoimen näkökulmasta. Tutkielman tavoitteena on aiemman tutkimuksen perusteella selvittää, miten controller-toiminto vaikuttaa organisaation päätöksentekoon, johtamiseen, liiketoimintaan ja strategiseen ohjaukseen. Lisäksi tutkielmassa kuvataan controllerille tyypillisiä rooleja, osaamisvaatimuksia ja työtehtäviä. Tutkielma on case- eli tapaustutkimus.

Tutkielman perusteella organisaatiot saavat controller-toiminnosta laaja-alaisia hyötyjä. Toiminto nostaa tiedolla johtamisen laatua, sillä oikea ja ajantasainen data parantaa päätöksentekoa ja heijastuu liiketoiminnan kannattavuuteen, sisäisiin prosesseihin ja organisaation ohjattavuuteen. Hyödyt realisoituvat, kun tietoperusta, vastuut ja päätöksentekorakenteet ovat selkeästi määritelty.

Case-yrityksessä on huomattu controller-toiminnon puute, joka on aiheuttanut vaikeuksia. Tutkielman teoreettisen pohjan avulla hahmotellaan case-yritykselle toimiva controller-toiminto, joka vastaa sen tarpeisiin. Tutkielma tarjoaa siten case-yritykselle rakenteellisen pohjan controller-toiminnon suunnittelulle ja kehittämiselle.

This thesis examines the controller function from the perspective of management accounting. The aim of the thesis, based on prior research, is to determine how the controller function affects organizational decision-making, management, business operations and strategic control. In addition, the thesis describes the typical roles, competence requirements and tasks of a controller. The study is conducted as a case study.

The findings indicate that organizations obtain wide-ranging benefits from the controller function. The function enhances the quality of data-driven management, as accurate and up-to-date data improves decision-making and is reflected in business profitability, internal processes and the controllability of the organization. These benefits materialize when the information base, responsibilities and decision-making structures are clearly defined.

In the case company, the absence of a controller function has been identified and has caused difficulties. Drawing on the theoretical framework of the thesis, an appropriate controller function is outlined for the case company to meet its needs. The thesis thus provides the case company with a structural foundation for the design and development of its controller function.
