This research approaches the program management best practices (mainly PMI Standard) and attempts to observe the significant connection of it with the strategic objectives. Program Management by definition is about achieving program’s strategic objectives and benefits. A well established Program Management Framework could actually be a tool in implementation of a company’s strategy because it can lead to a more flexible organization capable to execute important programs which final deliverables support the accomplishment of strategic goals. The findings of the case study at The Company showed that there is a significant gap between the Program Management applied in The Company in recent programs and the standard proposed by PMI and other literature. The results of interviews show that there is a lack of knowledge about PgM in the organization: unawareness about the possibilities of PgM in strategy implementation; as well as, a weak model of PgM used on the executed CD programs. Additionally, the Balanced Critical Factor Index reflected that the most critical attributes founded in the sense and respond questionnaire utilized, are highly similar to the areas of PgM which are partially applied in The Company. However, this study is not attempting to suggest that a complicated model of program management has to be established but it only provide evidence of the gaps and proposes certain improvements. These improvements might help The Company to a better achievement of strategic objectives and therefore to better business performance.
