Tiivistelmä
A growing number of distributed generation units in power systems along with the characteristics of intermittent renewable resources have increased the` need for flexibility in electrical networks. Flexible energy resources can assist system operators to operate their networks more efficiently. Active buildings can provide services to distribution and transmission systems through their flexible energy resources such as storage-based resources and controllable appliances. To analyze the flexibility potential of active buildings, this chapter firstly categorizes flexible appliances/devices of the building in terms of their degree of flexibility. Moreover, different flexibility services and their technical characteristics are introduced. Based on technical considerations, the contribution of active buildings to the provision of these services is discussed as well. Finally, the chapter analyzes the role of active building’s energy management system in this process.

Multi-Area Frequency Restoration Reserve Sizing
Pediaditis, Panagiotis; Papamatthaiou, Dimitrios; Papadaskalopoulos, Dimitrios; Prešić, Dušan; Hatziargyriou, Nikos D. (IEEE, 06.02.2023)
articleFrequency Restoration Reserves are traditionally sized using deterministic methods. The constant growth in non-dispatchable renewable energy, however, is increasing the importance of probabilistic methods for reserve sizing. ... -
Optimized Operation of Local Energy Community Providing Frequency Restoration Reserve
Firoozi, Hooman; Khajeh, Hosna; Laaksonen, Hannu (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 29.09.2020)
articleIn order to unlock the maximum flexibility potential of all levels in the power system, distribution-network-located flexible energy resources (FERs) should play an important role in providing system-wide ancillary services. ... -
Hierarchical Stochastic Frequency Constrained Micro-Market Model for Isolated Microgrids
Abedi, Tohid; Yousefi, Gholamreza; Shafie-Khah, Miadreza (IEEE, 17.04.2023)With the developments of isolated microgrids (IMGs) and prosumers in remote areas, energy trading has emerged as a critical aspect of IMGs. However, the lack of an upstream network and the low inertia of the system may ...
