This master's thesis is made as a commission to a financial technology (FinTech) company. The purpose of this research is to evaluate whether the processes of the case company reaches the maturity level 3 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and what are their improvement needs. A prerequisite for this commission is a non-disclosure agreement and therefore names of the commissioner or the case company will not be mentioned in this study.
The theory part covers the basics and the success factors of business process management. Also, the concept of core and support processes and their improvement are introduced. Furthermore, the second chapter comprised a thorough description of CMMI and its capability and maturity levels as well as the different evaluation methods of the model. The methodology part describes the research methods that was used and it serves as an introduction to the empirical part. Eventually, the empirical part of the research was executed by applying a case study method where the maturity and improvement needs of the case company's processes were evaluated. The assessment was done with modified version of the Appraisal Requirements for CMMI (ARC) version 1.3.
Based on the interviews, the collaboration tools, Wiki and JIRA confluence, as well as other documentation and evidence gathered from different sources, the case company does not reach maturity level 3. Their biggest deficiencies and improvement areas are in the process management process area, as well as in support processes that lack or-ganizational policies and process descriptions.
